Why we can’t keep paying N18k minimum wage – State governors

                  

Nigerian governors insist that the prevalent economic crunch and dwindling national revenue will ultimately lead to a situation where the federal minimum wage of N18,000 will either be reduced or workers massively entrenched.

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum and Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, said in spite of widespread public criticism, it’s not feasible to continue to pay the current minimum wage to the available workforce.

After a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House Abuja, on Thursday, Yari said the funds allocated from the Federation Account is no longer sufficient to run the states effectively.

Its crazy and its an act of wickedness you want to cut down the minimum wage but your own salary runs in millions and the price of oil doesn't affect it. cut your salary down first leaders should learn to lead by example.

According to Premium Times, Governors of the 36 states of the federation may face a major confrontation with Nigerian workers, following yesterday’s declaration that they would no longer be able to pay the N18,000 national minimum wage due to dwindling oil revenue.
The pronouncement has triggered stern objections by various workers’ groups in the country, with organised labour threatening to shut down the country should the governors insist on taking the decision.
Leaders of the various labour groups, including the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, also warned against the ugly consequences of the governors’ decision.
