Prostitutes no longer welcome on the ‘streets of Akwa Ibom’

Commercial sex workers have been asked to leave the streets of Uyo.
The Akwa Ibom State government through the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Glory Edet, gave this directive in Uyo on Tuesday during a Town Hall Meeting with representatives of female students in tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom.

Edet stated that the prostitutes are constituting a nuisance along the streets of the state capital, a situation which she says, dents the image of the state.
“As a ministry, we play a major role in the implementation of programmes that promote the development of women.
“It is, therefore, necessary to provide orientation for young women to enable them to grow into responsible mothers”, she said.
